Regional Health Clinic, Regional Health Systems’ federally qualified health center, operates four facilities in three Northwest Indiana communities: Hammond, East Chicago, and Merrillville. As a non-profit, community health center, we provide affordable medical and dental care to individuals of all ages, income and logistical challenges.
Nearly fifty years ago, Regional Health Systems began as two community mental health centers (CMHCs) providing outpatient behavioral health services to Northwest Indiana Hoosiers. Over the years, the CMHCs expanded services to cover substance abuse and residential treatment, and eventually partnered to combined administrative services — creating the first administrative service organization in Indiana servicing mental health providers: Geminus Corporation.
The changes didn’t stop there. The CMHCs, after combining administrative services, united together as Regional Mental Health Center. And, Geminus Corporation became recognized as a critical community organization for administering social services in Northwest Indiana; it also took on the challenge of providing quality early childhood learning opportunities.
Throughout these changes, our core values (partnership, service, and community) have remained the driving forces behind our commitment to our clients’ progress and well-being — to treat the whole person. These attributes guided our most recent expansion to provide residents and our mental health clients affordable access to quality medical and dental care through Regional Health Clinic.
Regional looked to change the physical health disparities of those we serve, and in March 2014 we opened the first Regional Health Clinic in Hammond.
In August 2015, we became the first community health center in Indiana to open inside of a community mental health center — Regional Mental Health Center’s Stark Center in East Chicago. A year later, we expanded to North Hammond and included an on-site dental clinic. And in July 2017, we opened our newest location inside a second community mental health center — Regional Mental Health Center's Strawhun Center in Merrillville.
The breadth and depth of services provided by Regional Health Systems are extensive. As a health care network, we manage more than 50 primary care, behavioral health care, outpatient, residential and early learning sites in Lake and Porter counties in addition to scores of community-based programs ranging from primary and behavioral health, early childhood education, child abuse prevention, domestic violence intervention, substance abuse prevention, case management, counseling, residential services, school therapy, truancy prevention services, and much more.
